Who we are

Jim Holmes spent over 20 years living and working as a photographer for humanitarian agencies in Southeast Asia, most of that time in Laos. He travelled extensively throughout this stunning country often to remote communities with time-honoured local traditions, gaining a deep knowledge of its geography, people, and traditional crafts.

With a longstanding interest in textiles he sought out traditional fabrics and fibres, gradually building a diverse collection of textile sources gathered over many years.
That fascination with processes and materials is now shared through Fabric and Fibre residential tours which offer a rare opportunity to learn and enhance your own textile interests.

Laos is a peaceful, Buddhist, landlocked country in Southeast Asia that has quietly remained beyond the mainstream tourist trail. Draped in rugged, forest-covered mountains, the landscape scattered with traditional timber villages where life continues much as it has for generations. Here, an agrarian way of life endures, offering visitors a rare chance to experience a slower, more authentic rhythm of living—far from the rush of modern tourism.

Join us for a textile experience in northern Laos where traditional methods are mentored in a real-world environment.
